Carolina Rambaldi (Lauretta Masiero) is a rich widow abandoned by her three children: Marcello (Alessandro Gassman), a lazy and seductive good-for-nothing, Lucrezia (Angela Finocchiaro), a sterile and authoritarian TV presenter and Cesare (Gustavo Frigerio), a failed and homosexual writer. When she died, she stipulated that her fortune would revert to the first of her children who would give her offspring within eighteen months. Marcello then meets Marina (Monica Bellucci), a serial killer who immediately becomes pregnant before having a miscarriage. Marcello rencontre alors Marina (Monica Bellucci), une tueuse en série qui tombe de suite enceinte avant de faire une fausse couche. Pour obtenir malgré tout l’héritage, elle va en Allemagne dans une clinique spécialisée dans la transplantation d’embryons pour les femmes stériles et demande à sa sœur jumelle de rester avec Marcello en attendant, afin de faire diversion.
